Help with reading

Can you think back to when you started at school and starting to read was so hard at first? My partner's young ones had an awful time and they had to attend summer school to keep up with the class and make with their grades. They also used reading tutors who helped them get competent and start to enjoy reading and of course all their learning became easier.
